The First Rule of Camp Quixey

From fire dancing and hula to yoga and zip lining, Camp Quixey has it all. Except one thing, that is – work. The first rule of Camp Quixey is “no working.” Our non-traditional company retreat is motivated by an impulse to create authentic connections. After all, why throw employees into a stuffy room for some forced conversation when you can facilitate bonds through shared interests and experiences? (Rule #2 at Camp Quixey, if you’re wondering, is “have fun.”)

Rather than hosting a typical company outing in a boring conference room, Quixey sends employees to camp. At Camp Quixey, we replicate what we experienced as kids when we went away for summer camp: the freedom to explore. The shift to a new environment at camp sets us up to have unforgettable experiences and build thriving friendships! We understand we ask a ton from our employees, and Camp Quixey is one of the big ways we show them we truly appreciate their hard work.

This year, Camp Quixey moved into San Jose Family Camp near Yosemite and completely made it our own. We “Quixeytized” every inch of that campground, from our hand painted signs all over camp to our fully stocked snack shack that had everything anyone might need. Not to mention the endless activities happening every moment of the day, like:

  • Outdoor Laser Tag
  • Unlimited Table and Chair Massage
  • 3-Hole Frisbee Golf Course
  • Human Hamsterball Races
  • Archery Lessons
  • Rock Wall
  • Log Rolling Competition
  • Basketball
  • Movie Under the Stars
  • Radio Station and Telescopes
  • Guided Night Hike
  • Orienteering Challenge
  • Panning for Gold
  • Face Painting
  • Beatboxing Seminar
  • Survival School
  • Full Luau with Roast Pork, Macaroni Salad, Three Piece Trio, Hula Dancers, and Fire Dancers
  • Snack Competition
  • S’mores Bar
  • Unlimited Mimosas

We also have tons of employee-led activities to help Quixiers share their common interests, incluidng:

  • Coffee Tasting
  • Bracelet Making
  • Self Defense Courses

This year’s Camp Quixey concluded with a series of epic events: an Exotic Animal Show to bust various myths about the animal kingdom and a Science Experiment with Tory Bellici from the Mythbusters, followed by animal meet and greets and an unforgettable party with a killer band!

Our CEO, Tomer Kagan, said it best:

“Even though the Camp Quixey locations change every six months and each one becomes something different, I can say this: The reason for Camp Quixey has always stayed the same. The reason we’re here today, the reason we value this over three days of work and three days in the office is very simple. This is going to be one of the most important things that we do as a company. As a company we spend day in and day out working with one another, sitting right next to each other. In fact, I don’t know about you, but I see you guys more then my own family.  So, if I am going to be putting in that energy and I am going to be spending time with you guys day in and day out. I at least deserve and you guys deserve to know one another. We need to actually be able to know the people we’re working with, communicate with them, hang out with them, be able to talk to them directly, feel comfortable with them. There’s nothing that does that better, I believe, then Camp Quixey … That’s what Camp Quixey is, is training for how to actually be a family … to be a place we enjoy being … and want to come back to.”
